Find Your Quietude

qui·e·tude /ˈkwīəˌt(y)o͞od/

a state of stillness, calmness, and quiet in a person or place

Think about the last time you felt Quietude.

You may have been alone or with loved ones. It might have been at home or in nature. Quietude is that moment when you look around, take a deep breath, and feel at peace with where you are and what you’re doing. It’s a very comforting feeling. We all need such moments to keep us centered and energized.  The busier our lives get, the more difficult – and more important – it becomes to find moments of quietude. For a lot of us, it’s a skill we need to actively learn and practice.

If you have had experiences with abuse, assault, depression, anxiety, or stress, finding Quietude may not feel possible. Your mind might not be a peaceful place. It’s possible you have to constantly fight down thoughts and feelings of sadness, anger, shame, and guilt. You may handle this by keeping yourself as busy as possible to keep your mind occupied. Maybe you surround yourself with people to avoid being alone. Perhaps it’s gotten so overwhelming that you’ve simply gone numb.
